We all need to take a moment and appreciate Bhallaladeva (played by Rana Daggubati) for he was the smartest character in Baahubali: The Conclusion. A lot of you may still be dazed by the handsome Amrendra Baahubali (Prabhas) and his dreamy romance with Devasena (Anushka Shetty). Everybody thinks that Amrendra was wronged and that he deserved much more than treason. However, it was Bhalla, who was constantly let down by everyone around him. He was stripped off everything he had or ever wanted. But he rose to power. He attained what he’d been after his whole life. And not through violence or getting down and dirty. He played a very smart game.

It is that intelligence that we need to recognise and applaud. Nobody would’ve expected Bhalla to be the mastermind behind Mahishmati’s fate or Amrendra’s death. Perhaps they underestimated him. We have five reasons that prove that he was the most cunning character in Baahubali: The Conclusion.

A diplomatic individual

Diplomacy was his game. He was extremely careful of his words and emotions. In the first bit itself as Bhallala Deva is seen with his trusted comrades and father, we notice how he subtly keeps a check on his words. Remember when his father said that he wanted Sivagami dead? Bhallala stared at his father intently but instead of saying ‘feeling’s mutual,’ he said that it’s the alcohol talking. At around the same time, the Queen’s trusted Kattappa made an entry and mocked Bijjaladeva for his comment on Sivagami. That, my friends, is diplomacy.

King of Deception

Bhallaladeva acted all humble in front of an already guilty Sivagami who had granted the kingdom to Amrendra Baahubali. When she offered Bhalla, elephants, gold, castles and more, he politely declined it and said he’d be of great support to Baahubali despite not being on the throne. The naive mother ate every word of his as he walked away with conceited anger.

Suppressed anger

Bhallaladeva wasn’t a angry young man. He was very calculative and never showed his true emotions and angst, not to his mother Sivagami, nor to his father Bijjala Deva. He suppressed it within him. In various instances during the movie, Bhallala had several reasons to lash out at all that was going wrong in his life like losing the kingdom to Baahubali, losing the pretty girl (Devasena) to him, losing his subjects to Baahubali! Basically, everything he wanted was swept away by Amrendra. That itself called for him to lose his cool. However, unlike his father, who kept showcasing his anger, Bhalla maintained a calm demeanour. The only time he went batsh*t crazy was when Kattappa killed Baahubali!

Latent strength

Bhallaladeva is known for his physique. I mean, he can smash like Hulk and not care about the consequences. However, he didn’t unleash his inner demons and kept calm. Clearly, his patience did pay off as he was able to strategise correctly and hit the nail on the coffin. Like, for example, when he was crowned as the king and the people of Mahishmati opposed the idea. Everybody started cheering for Baahubali, so much that even the throne where Bhallala was seated, was shaking. Did he retaliate with his fierce strength? No. He stayed calm with a smile plastered across his face and waited for the whole drama to stop.

He was the ultimate player

Everything worked according to his ruse. All he had to do was keep himself collected. To be honest, Bhalla faced a lot of unfair treatment from his mother Sivagami, the people of Mahishmati and even the woman he loved, Devasena. However, he let nothing break him. Eventually, he did get the throne, Baahubali’s death and Devasena (in chains, though).

As you can see, he got everything he ever wanted. He was a force to reckon with. Sadly, the one thing he didn’t expect was Mahendra Baahubali.
